Happy Day!
What a happy day!  It is my sister’s birthday today.  I really love her.  Don’t tell her, though.  :)  So first off, Happy Birthday, Sis!  I hope it was a good one.  The weather continues to be gorgeous so Trond and I took a very long walk on a new route today.  We met a six-month old Pit bull mix named Blue.  He was sweet and wanted to show Trond how tough he was.  Trond (in his...

Dog Tired
Today I had the extreme pleasure of having all three meals with my best friend!  It is a busy time of year at the non-profit I work part-time for and Tim is out of town, so Trond spent yesterday and today at Playful Pets.  He is dog tired. In fact, as Larry put it - ‘He’s draggin’ ass!’  This morning, I dropped Trond off at Playful Pets, then picked Erica up and we went...

A Healing Hund
Last Thursday, Tim had another LASIK procedure.  On Friday morning, we went back to the doctor for his follow up appointment.  Everything was healing correctly but Tim was in pain longer than the last time and more sensitive to light.  For the rest of the day on Friday, he took it easy on the big couch, listening to rather than watching TV.  He kept his eyes closed for most of the day.   The...

Spring Time then Fall
The day started out really well, guys.  I woke up to this one: He was wide awake in his huset with his ears flipped over greeting the day. We went for our morning walk and saw yet more spring beauty. I mean, just freakin’ beeeeeauuuuutiful, right?  Even these jag-mos: It still takes every ounce of will power in me not to pick one of these things.  My fellow NWC friends know...

Hunden min på vårparten
Springtime has hit Chicago early this year and I am loving every second of it!  This is my favorite time of year.  I hope it lasts and lasts this year.  Anyhooo —— the hund is enjoying it but he is getting used to the heat again.  When you’re a hund with a thick, black winter coat (he hasn’t shed it yet) temps near 80 degrees kinda wear you down.  Last Wednesday, after we...

A Smile from Mamba
Friends! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  This entry has nothing to do with it :) ‘Tis been faaaarrrrr too long.  (typed in an Irish accent) I guess I took a bit of a break from the ol’ blaaag (Chicago accent) whilst my Mamba was here from Texas.  She spent part of her Spring Break up here in good ol’ Chicago with me.  It was terrific!  We shopped, had friends over for brunch,...

Spring Is ...
making it’s sweet way.  Trond and I saw these bloomin’ through the ground the other day on our walk. Makes for a happy girl and a happy hund!

Watch Hund
Most dog owners, I imagine, are greeted by their hund at the door when they come home from work or rehearsal or errands or whatever.  Maybe their hund barks when they hear that someone is at the door.  Or at least, maybe their hund raises their head a little bit when their owner comes home.                                               Not this hund! He is far too comfortable and way too...

Snowflakes & Sweaters
It snowed off and on this weekend.  Nothing accumulated, thankfully, but it was odd snow.  It didn’t really seem like flakes.  It seemed more like those little white balls that fill bean bag chairs were falling from the sky, rather than snowflakes, per say.  Good thing you can see the white snow against my Black Lab.   Ahhh… the Contrast. The hund and I just expected it to...

A Hund - His Balls
Labrador Retrievers are known as a friendly, amiable breed.  Trond is no exception.  He has always been a sociable fellow.  But a year ago, when he was a mere 10 months old, his friendliness was a little too… assertive.  We’d be at a dog park or out on a walk, another dog would stop to play with our hund and the playing would turn into, well, harassment.  Our puppy was growing up.  ...

A Hund + His Balls
Our hund is one superb chewer.  Since we’ve met him, he has made this trait abundantly clear to us.  Shown it off, if you will.  (I think you will.)  When we first brought Trond home we really had to watch what was on the floor because if it was on the floor, it was fair game for this two month old puppy to chew.  We had to keep the bathroom door closed at all times so he wouldn’t get...

Happy Leap Day!
Tim found this posted in our neighborhood.  I had to share it with you. Totally legit sign.  Totally quackers.  Happy Leap Day!

Laughing Hund, Hugging Hanson
Trond is trying to understand what it is that Tim and I ‘do’.  He knows we do not have jobs with ‘regular hours’ or real stability.  He knows we sometimes play weird instruments that freak him out, like a saxophone, guitar, keyboard or - horror of all horrors - an accordion.  He knows that sometimes we’re at the computer, writing something or in the office recording...

Back Yard Hund
When you have a hund in the city, you gotta take that hund out a lot.  Tim and I walk this dog three times a day for at least half an hour each walk - well, that is our goal.  If the weather is totally horrible, then we’re out with him long enough for him to take care of his business and we are back inside where it is nice and dry.  Instead of walking him each time this weekend, I opted to...

A Helping Hund
Today I needed to go to the Post Office and the bank.  I could have gone on my way to lunch but decided that it would be more fun to take care of these little errands on the morning walk with my helping hund.  So, the hund helped me drop off the mail that needed to go out today. He even went up on his hind hund legs to make sure the envelope went in all the way.  Such a helping hund! Next:...

Hund Ears
Now, People, when you have a Lab, everyone tells you, ‘You gotta watch their ears.’  I cannot tell you how many people have said this to me in the year and seven months of having Trond.  Our vet, other Lab owners and total strangers - yes, one woman sitting out on her porch last summer, smoking like a chimney, with her ashtray voice said to me from around her cigarette, “Best dog...

A Cuddly Hund
I just cannot tell you how very much I love this! Last night, after I came home from a rehearsal, I took the hund on an evening walk.  We were home about an hour or so after our walk when he plopped down on my feet.  But he leaned his head up against my legs and just looked at me.  “Come on up to the couch, Silly Dingus!”  I says to the hund.  Up he climbed and curled up next to...

President's Day Weekend
Three years ago on President’s Day Weekend, my best friend Erica and I were wedding dress shopping.  For me.  I am so very thankful for Erica in millions of ways - I still feel I owe her BIG TIME for doing this with me.  If she hadn’t, I don’t know what I would have been married in.  I know that most normal girls love to talk about weddings.  Most girls dream of the day when...

Gaver
I love presents (gaver)!  I love giving presents!  I love receiving presents!  I’d like to think that I am pretty good at doing both.  Maybe I’m a bit better at one than the other, who knows?  Anyhoooo —- We can all agree that my husband is a total dreamboat.  Not only that, he is quite intelligent, funny, patient and kind.  The only real hang up I have about this guy, is that...

Hund Park
It was nearly 50 degrees and sunny outside today, both Tim and I were home this afternoon, so you know, by cracky, that we would head out to the dog park with the hund!  We hopped in the car and drove over to good ol’ Puptown. When you go to dog parks, in Chicago, people hang their leashes, harnesses, back packs, etc on the fence but Puptown is nice in that they provide hooks. When we go...
